چکیده

The authors of “Cortical F-Actin, the Exocytic Mode, and Neuropeptide Release in Mouse Chromaffin Cells Is Regulated by Myristoylated Alanine-rich C-Kinase Substrate and Myosin II” (Mol Biol Cell [2009] 20, 3142–3154; doi:10.1091/mbc.E09-03-0197) wish to retract the paper. The retraction arises from a finding by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Research Integrity (2013) that author Bryan W. Doreian engaged in research misconduct by falsifying data in the paper, including:

Myosin II activation and actin reorganization regulate the mode of quantal exocytosis in mouse adrenal chromaffin cells.

Chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla are innervated by the sympathetic nervous system. Stimulation causes chromaffin cells to fire action potentials, leading to the exocytosis of various classes of transmitters into the circulation. Low-frequency electrical stimulation (action potentials delivered at 0.5 Hz) causes adrenal chromaffin cells to selectively release catecholamines through a kiss...

Nongenomic glucocorticoid effects on activity-dependent potentiation of catecholamine release in chromaffin cells.

Adrenal medulla chromaffin cells are neuroendocrine and modified sympathetic ganglion cells. Catecholamines released from chromaffin cells mediate the fight-or-flight response or alert reaction against dangerous conditions. Here we report that short-term treatment with glucocorticoids, released from adrenal cortex cells in response to chronic stress, inhibits activity-dependent potentiation (AD...

A role for MARCKS, the alpha isozyme of protein kinase C and myosin I in zymosan phagocytosis by macrophages

Myristoylated, alanine-rich C-kinase substrate (MARCKS) is a lipopolysaccharide-induced protein kinase C (PKC) substrate that has been proposed to regulate actin-membrane interactions, as well as actin structure at the membrane. We studied the distribution of MARCKS, the alpha isozyme of PKC (PKC alpha), and myosin I in lipopolysaccharide-treated peritoneal macrophages ingesting zymosan particl...

Physiological stimulation regulates the exocytic mode through calcium activation of protein kinase C in mouse chromaffin cells.

Adrenal medullary chromaffin cells release catecholamines and neuropeptides in an activity-dependent manner controlled by the sympathetic nervous system. Under basal sympathetic tone, catecholamines are preferentially secreted. During acute stress, increased sympathetic firing evokes release of both catecholamines as well as neuropeptides. Both signalling molecules are co-packaged in the same l...

HEMOSTASIS, THROMBOSIS, AND VASCULAR BIOLOGY Platelet secretion induced by phorbol esters stimulation is mediated through phosphorylation of MARCKS: a MARCKS-derived peptide blocks MARCKS phosphorylation and serotonin release without affecting pleckstrin phosphorylation

Previous experiments suggest that actin disassembly, perhaps at a specific site, is required for platelet secretion. Platelet stimulation by phorbol 12-myristate 13acetate (PMA) induced pleckstrin phosphorylation, platelet aggregation, and secretion. Inhibition of protein kinase C (PKC) is accompanied by inhibition of pleckstrin phosphorylation and serotonin secretion. Here, we demonstrate the ...
